Introducing the Learn to Swim Zone and lane allocation changes at Collingwood
Friday 24 January 2020
The ability to swim is a vital life skill and we recognise the value of a quality program that achieves just that – everyone learning to swim and be safe in and around the water.
After conducting a significant review of our Learn to Swim Program we have identified opportunities for improvement to our program that will increase learning outcomes and overall experience for infants, children, adults and families in the program.
To meet the needs of our growing program and help more students and families access the service, we have introduced a Learn to Swim Zone to Collingwood Leisure Centre’s 25m pool and program pool. Between 4pm and 6:30pm on school days additional lanes will be made available for our learn to swim program. The swimming pools are still open to the public during this time. Outside of school day afternoons including weekends, school holidays and public holidays our learn to swim zone will not apply.
Collingwood is well-known as the flagship venue for learning to swim in Yarra. With shorter distances and indoor heated pools, it is the perfect environment to support learning to swim at all ages.
Which aquatic areas can I access during this time?
A multi-purpose lane is available for public use, which can be used for exercise, lap and recreational swimming and rehabilitation. Space is also available in a designated area of the program pool and our spa and sauna can still be accessed during these times.
We encourage lap swimmers looking for more lane options during this time to visit Fitzroy Swimming Pool or Richmond Recreation Centre.
When planning your visit to one of our centres, be sure to check out our lane availability.
Will there still be lessons outside of these hours?
By allocating more lanes to our learn to swim program from 4pm to 6:30pm, we will be able to reduce lessons scheduled outside these hours.
Over the course of the year we will be moving selected lessons currently scheduled after 6:30pm within the Learn to Swim Zone.
This will mean that lap swimmers will be able to enjoy their activity with access to more lanes after 6:30pm.
