A group of staff holding awards

Yarra Leisure received a number of important accolades in an award ceremony at Richmond Town Hall last week.

Lifeguards Callum McLeod and Simon Rohan-Jones received Everyday Lifesaver awards from Life Saving Victoria for their roles in saving the life of a customer in an emergency situation.

Lifesaving Victoria also presented Yarra Leisure’s Centre Managers with Platinum Pool certification. Collingwood Leisure Centre, Fitzroy Swimming Pool and Richmond Recreation Centre now join an exclusive club of just 23 Victorian aquatic facilities currently holding the accreditation.

The Platinum Pool Program was introduced by Life Saving Victoria to highlight aquatic facilities that have achieved the highest standards in the provision of aquatic safety and risk management. This accreditation is recognised as a sign of excellence within the industry.

The event was also an opportunity to celebrate a significant milestone for Yarra Leisure in achieving 10 years of certification for of AS/NZS ISO 9001:2015, the most widely used quality management system in the world.

Accredited third party Sci Qual International presented Yarra Leisure’s Management team with the industry-leading award and certification for Occupational Health and Safety AS/NZS 4801:2001.

Yarra Leisure implemented the Quality Management System back in 2007, building strong business principals in all aspects of service delivery across the organisation. These principles ensure we:

  • are customer focused and strive to meet the needs of customers at all times
  • have a process approach to services
  • apply risk-based thinking to what we do
  • make decisions based on evidence, and
  • seek to continually improve what we do and the outcomes achieved.

While a significant number of hours and work goes in to achieving these certifications, it provides Council with the confidence that the programs and services delivered and the health and safety of our community is well managed and protected.

Congratulations to all Yarra Leisure staff for their work and dedication towards achieving the highest standards in aquatic safety, quality management and risk management.
