Water Safety Week - stay safe this summer

Water Safety Week 2021

We’re celebrating Water Safety Week from Monday 29 November to Sunday 5 December 2021 with a range of events and activities across our venues.

Water Safety Week is part of the Victorian Government's 'Play it Safe by the Water' campaign which aims to reduce the number of drownings in Victoria and raise awareness about water safety. Our theme for 2021 is ‘Safe this Summer’.

Did you know:

From 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021, 94 people drowned in Australian waterways, with 61 deaths in Victoria - that’s 94 too many!

Tragically, this is up 20% on 2020, with one quarter of these drowning deaths occurring while people were swimming recreationally.

With most cases occurring in summer, Water Safety Week is a timely reminder to always play it safe by the water. We encourage you to get involved in our events so that you can enjoy a happy and fun-filled summer around water with the people you love.

What's on?

'Safe this summer' themed swimming lessons

Every lesson is a water safety lesson, but during Water Safety Week we'll teach you how to be safe around water this summer. You’ll learn how to stay safe in the pool and at the beach; whether you're at home, at a friend’s house or away on holidays.

Women Making Safety Waves

Our Women Making Waves program is a women’s only program encouraging women of all ages, cultures and abilities to attend and participate in learn to swim lessons and general aquatic activities. During Water Safety Week we’ll be hosting water safety themed swimming lessons and activities.

Little Lifesavers colouring station

Out on pool deck you’ll find a colouring-in station with everything you need to create some cool and colourful artwork for you to take home and enjoy.
