A message from the Mayor

A state of emergency has been declared in 6 councils across Victoria. With bushfires currently impacting large parts of our state, we are doing what we can to support our rural cousins battling these horrific fires.

Yarra City Council is talking directly to affected councils to offer targeted support that they need throughout this crisis.

On behalf of Yarra City Council and all of my fellow councillors I’d like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone in the emergency services battling the fire and supporting the communities that have been devastated by this disaster.

We’d also like to acknowledge the generosity of the Yarra community. We are very proud to rally our support behind the local community groups and businesses numerous fundraising efforts.

I’d encourage those who can afford to make a donation to Victorian Bushfire Appeal to do so through official channels to ensure that 100% of the donated funds go directly to communities in need.

Stay safe and reach out to support each other if you can and please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.

Donations can be made at any Bendigo Bank branch or online at Community Enterprise Foundation.

Fundraising events

If you haven't already got involved, many Yarra groups and businesses are holding fundraisers.

To find out what's happening near you, or to share details about a bushfire fundraiser, visit our community event calendar.

Fast tracking permits

We're providing practical support to local activities. If you are a registered or bona fide charity in Yarra that is looking to hold a fundraising event to help those affected by the bushfires, we are waiving permit fees and fast-tracking the approval process so you can get your event underway as soon as possible.

We are also offering the Gleadell Street Market community stall to help individuals, groups or businesses bushfire fundraising efforts.

If you want to hold a community fundraiser make sure your application states ‘bushfire fundraiser’ so we can get the permits organised as quickly as possible.

Apply for an event permit and make sure you add the details in our community event calendar, tagged as a ‘bushfire fundraiser’.
